ADVENTURES IN CARTOONING

By Chris Wilson Editor-in-Geek REVIEW “Once upon a time … a princess tried to make a comic…” and her efforts were cleverly captured by Sturm, Frederick-Frost and Arnold and put to page. Thanks to an elf – a magic cartooning elf, that is – the young princess embarked on her own journey to learn how to draw the story stuck in her mind.

JACK AND THE BOX

JACK AND THE BOX Cover

By Chris Wilson Editor-in-Geek STORY REVIEW When I first found out that Pulitzer Prize winning comic creator Art Spiegelman started a comics company for primary aged children, I was ecstatic – couldn’t contain my excitement. Comics for little ones! He’s the perfect person to take such an undertaking because 1) he understands the importance of great storytelling and 2) he learned to read by looking at comics.

TALE OF SAND

TALE OF SAND Cover

By Kevin Hodgson Staff Writer STORY SUMMARY Surreal is the only way to really describe TALE OF SAND, which is a graphic novel based on a lost screenplay by Jim Henson, of Muppet fame, and his writing partner, Jerry Hujl. The screenplay was found collecting dust in the Henson archives and was given over to the very talented graphic novelist Ramon K. Perez, whose vivid illustrations tell the tale of a stranger known only as “Mac” set in motion on an adventure in the American southwest. I can’t even begin to do the story tangents justice here, except to say […] Read More
